Marko Machicao currently holds the position of Executive Director for Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay at the Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC) and is Representative of the Plurinational State of Bolivia to the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). He has a degree in economics from Mexico’s Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, known as Tec, with a master’s in Tourism Management from the Catholic University of Bolivia. His postgraduate studies are in Tourism and International Cooperation, Rural Tourism, and a diploma in Exchange Intelligence. Mr. Machicao’s professional experience relates generally to international finance, tourism management, public management, international cooperation, public policies, microenterprise, and medium-sized business.
His positions held include partner at the services firm Experiencias Turísticas s.r.l. (XPERTOUR) in Bolivia; Business Officer for Corporate, Business, and Institutional Banking at Banco de Crédito; advisor and consultant in development of the tourism sector strategy of the Municipal Government of La Paz; curriculum development consultant for the tourism school at the Universidad Amazónica de Pando; and consultant for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in preparing the contingency plan for pandemics affecting the tourism sector in Bolivia.
Mr. Machicao served as Bolivia’s Vice Minister of Tourism from 2011 until 2015, when he was promoted to Minister of Cultures and Tourism, a position he held until January 2017.
