Germán Quintana

Born in Santiago de Chile, Germán Quintana, was appointed Secretary of the Bank in July 2009, following an outstanding and extensive public service career in his country.

Before assuming his current position, Mr. Quintana was Chief of Staff in the IDB's Office of the Presidency from December 2007 to July 2009. He was Chief of the Department of Modernization of the State and Governance at the Organization of American States (OAS). From 2000-2006 he was Executive Director for Chile and Ecuador on the Boards of Executive Directors of the IDB and the Inter-American Investment Corporation (CII). He also represented Chile on the Donors Committee of the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF).

In his public service career in Chile, Mr. Quintana served as the Minister of Planning and Cooperation (1998-2000), the Governor and President of the Regional Council on the Metropolitan Commission of Santiago (1996-1998), the Undersecretary of the Department of Public Works (1994-1996), and the Head of the Computer Division in the Ministry of Interior (1990-1994).

German Quintana holds a degree in civil engineering from the University of Chile, Santiago of Chile, a Master in International Public Policy form John Hopkins University, and a Certificate in Negotiation and Influence from Georgetown University.
