The United Kingdom Department of International Development (DFID) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) discussed today progress made in joint trade support and in the preparation of projects to promote private sector development and competitiveness in the Caribbean.

IDB launches business plan competition for tourism projects in the Caribbean
The Inter-American Development Bank will hold a business plan competition for Caribbean tourism projects involving low-income communities in their value chains. The contest, organized by the IDB’s Opportunities for the Majority Initiative, is open to companies based in the Bahamas, Barbados, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago.

Guyana to strengthen financial sector with assistance from IDB
The Inter-American Development Bank approved today a $5 million loan to strengthen Guyana's financial sector. This program supports one of the three pillars in the IDB Country Strategy for Guyana (2009-2012), namely the Competitiveness Strategy.
