Closing Session
Inter-American Development Bank President Enrique Iglesias closed the
46th IADB Annual Meeting with a speech in which he reminded the audience
of the fundamental theme of the gathering, the strengthening of LatinAmerican
and Japan relations.
Iglesias also underlined several objectives that will attract the Bank’s
attention in the future, including the balancing of the role of the state
and private sector.

especially the elimination of poverty.

Iglesias warned that the economic bonanza most of the region is now enjoying must be administered wisely in order to avoid classic economic swings.
He also set several goals for the workings of the bank, including a much bigger emphasis on issuing loans in local currencies, strengthening the Multilateral Investment Fund and achieving a responsible flexibility in its operations.
He gave an optimistic evaluation of the region’s relationships
with the rest of the world.
