The Fiftieth Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Development Bank and the Twenty-fourth Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the Inter-American Investment Corporation will be held in the city of Medellín, Colombia, from 27 to 31 March 2009. The inaugural session will take place at the Metropolitan Theater. Seminars, sessions, and meetings will be held at the Plaza Mayor Exhibition Hall and Convention Center.

As you are aware, 6 March was the deadline for online pre-registration. *** Please remember that participation at the Annual Meeting is by invitation only. If you did not complete the process, please register at the Convention Center during the following schedule:

When registering, participants will be asked to present their passports so they may be issued Annual Meeting identification badges. Colombian citizens should present a government-issued identity card, a driver’s license, or a valid passport.

Upon arrival in the host country, duly preregistered participants should visit the Registration Desk during the hours specified to pick up their official annual meeting identification badges.

Airport arrival, customs and immigration: The host country will have duly identified staff available at the José María Córdova International Airport to assist arriving travelers. Visa information [ requirements ] and [ form ]

Accommodations: The Host Committee will arrange hotel reservations for official delegations, observers, special guests, and members of the press. To request reservations, click here.

Ground transportation: The following services will be available to provide transportation to members of the IDB-IIC Delegation.

Weather: In March, the temperature in Medellín ranges between 62°F/16.7°C and 83°F/28.5°C.  Weather forecasts can be found at www.weather.com.

Electricity: The electric current operates on 110 volts AC, 60 Hz. Plugs with two flat pins or two flat pins and a third round pin are used.

Time zone: During the Annual Meeting, Medellín will be five hours behind Greenwich Mean Time.

IDB Annual Meetings are Carbon Neutral: For the fourth consecutive year, the Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors of the IDB is carbon neutral. The Bank's Corporate Environmental and Social Responsibility Initiative is committed to calculating, reducing, and offsetting the Bank’s greenhouse gas emissions associated with its business at Headquarters, its Country Offices, and its Annual Meetings.

Services: The offices of the Meeting Secretariat in Medellín will open on 23 March 2009. However, all communications should be sent to Washington, D.C., for retransmission to Medellín:

Simultaneous interpretation: Simultaneous interpretation into English, French, Portuguese, and Spanish will be provided during the sessions.

Press room: Members of the press will have access to a room in the Hall of the Palacio de Exposiciones equipped with desks, computers, Internet, printers and telephones. Service providers will charge regular rates for international, long-distance and domestic telephone calls. The press room will open on Thursday, 26 March.

Health unit: An emergency health unit will be set up at the Convention Center. If you have an emergency at one of the hotels, please call the front desk of the hotel.

Cellular phone rental, banking services, and airline and tourist information services will be available at the Convention Center.

The deadline for requesting new invitations to the 2009 Annual Meeting was Wednesday, 18 February.The Office of the Secretary compiles lists of CSOs requesting invitations and submits them to IDB Executive Directors. Each Executive Director has final decision on the approval of requests made by organizations from the countries he or she represents.

Services: Meeting rooms/work spaces: CSOs will have access to assigned meeting rooms during the Annual Meeting. These rooms will be equipped with computers, Internet access, printers, and telephones. Organizations wishing to arrange meetings with IDB staff should direct their requests in writing to the Office of External Relations , Civil Society team no later than March 21, 2009.

Use of the Press Conference Room: Use of this room is limited to IDB officials and representatives from the official delegations of member countries, subject to availability, as determined by the IDB Media relations Unit. During official press events, seating areas will be specially designated for CSOs.
CSOs may hold press briefings in the CSO conference room, with prior written notice to Christina MacCulloch ( christinam@iadb.org ) of the IDB Media relations Unit and Karla Chaman ( kchaman@iadb.org ) from the Civil Society Team.

Distribution of printed materials: CSOs and special guests wishing to distribute printed materials at the meeting must use information display areas designated for that purpose throughout the venue. Printed materials such as flyers or announcements may not be taped, stapled or tacked to the walls within the facilities. In addition, CSOs may place printed materials on the display table outside their assigned office/meeting room.

Members of the media who wish to cover the meeting should complete the online pre-registration process before Feb. 27, 2009.

At the registration desk, members of the press will be asked to provide the following documentation:

Colombian journalists: Valid photo ID, a letter from their news service stating that they have been assigned to cover the meeting, and the identification card of their news service.

Foreign journalists: Valid passport and press credentials (with photograph) or a letter from their news organization stating that they have been assigned to cover the meeting.

Freelance journalists will NOT be able to participate in the Annual Meeting.
