On the eve of the annual meeting of the Inter-American Development Bank’s Board of Governors, representatives of the IDB’s 47 member countries will convene to discuss the Bank’s official business.

At a special governors’ meeting they will hear a presentation on climate change, which was the topic of a seminar on Saturday. They will also receive reports on recent reforms to realign the IDB’s structure and operations to better serve the needs of its clients, as well as about progress made in several key programs.

President Luis Alberto Moreno will apprise the governors about the achievements of the Sustainable Energy and Climate Change Initiative, the Water and Sanitation Initiative, the Opportunities for the Majority Initiative and efforts to promote integrated disaster risk management in Latin America and the Caribbean.

In the afternoon the committees of the Boards of Governors of the IDB and the Inter-American Investment Corporation will meet separately, before holding a joint session.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez will be the keynote speaker at a private sector forum on competitiveness organized by the Council of the Americas, an event that will also feature presentations by top executives of U.S. and Spanish companies and the finance ministers of Chile, Andrés Velasco, and Uruguay, Danilo Astori.
