Seminar Description

Volunteer Event Colonia El Limón
Thursday, 15 March - 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Young people are agents of change. When given the right opportunity and tools, they get involved and participate actively to identify viable options for the development of their communities and countries. Volunteerism is one of the ways in which they can make a difference, when given the opportunity. To spotlight the contributions young people make through community service and the importance of corporate social responsibility, a youth volunteer event is being organized in Colonia El Limón in Guatemala City. The event will focus on rehabilitation, reforestation, lighting, cleanup, and beautification activities. It will also include a health fair, computer workshops, and cultural, sports, and other activities. This hands-on event will offer participants the chance to interact and work with the youth and residents of El Limón, as well as with other volunteers, on these activities. The IDB's President and Senior Management officials, government dignitaries, community leaders, civil society organizations, the private sector, and other prominent figures will participate in the event.

For this event, the IDB is working with a coalition made up of representatives of various government agencies in Guatemala, civil society, international organizations, and the private sector, as well as leaders from Colonia El Limón, who are helping to coordinate the event.

The event will take place in association with Global Youth Service Day, an annual celebration commemorating the contributions young people have made throughout the year in their communities through volunteer work. Approximately four million young people in 100 countries participate in this event every year.
