Friday, 16 March - 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Salón Los Presidentes -

IDB Youth and the Government of Guatemala will coordinate a half-day program on 16 March 2007 to underscore the importance of investing in youth in order to step up socioeconomic development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The program will also provide a forum for highlighting innovative youth initiatives in the region, particularly by rural and indigenous youth. It will focus specifically on innovative youth development work, underscoring strategic partnerships that reach the majority through Bank entrepreneurship, employment, community service, and participation programs. Representatives of the public sector, private sector, and civil society in Latin America and the Caribbean will take part in all aspects of the program, and youth leaders will have the opportunity to present the contributions they have made to their communities and countries.

The second session will be a town hall meeting. President Moreno of the IDB and a group of approximately 6 to 10 youth leaders will participate in the meeting to discuss the conclusions and their experiences. This event will be televised on MTV in Latin America and will be distributed to other media outlets.

Volunteer service activity: An event on volunteerism will be organized to highlight youth contributions through community service and the importance of corporate social responsibility, with the participation of the President of the IDB, senior Bank Management, government dignitaries, community leaders, private-sector leaders, and other prominent individuals. It will focus on one specific project benefiting a low-income community in Guatemala.
