Who Bears the Fear of Crime and Violence in Colombia
Documents File (PDF, 397 Kb, En) This paper investigates the distribution of crime and violence across victims in Colombia. Property and violent crimes, as well as incidents of domestic violence, are considered. The paper shows that homicides are disproportionately borne by the poor and kidnappings by the rich. In addition, the poor, and in particular uneducated women bear a disproportionate share of domestic violence. Finally, rich households bear a disproportionate share of property crime and are more likely to be victimized and to feel unsafe in their cities.
