Public Social Expenditure in Brazil: An International Comparison

The objective of the present paper is to put social protection expenditure in Brazil into a wider international context. Specifically, to consider the composition, equity and efficiency of Public Social Expenditure at the aggregate level, compared with the patterns observed in other countries at a similar stage of economic development. For these purposes a set of fifteen comparator countries was constructed, drawn primarily from Latin America and the Far East.
