IDB to hold conference on corporate social responsibility in Uruguay
Event will take place in Punta del Este, December 1-3
The Inter-American Development Bank will host the VII Inter-American Conference on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in Punta del Este, Uruguay, from December 1 to December 3, 2009.
The event, organized by the IDB’s Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), the Government of Uruguay and DERES, the Uruguayan association of businesses active in corporate social responsibility, has been titled “Facing Challenges with Responsibility”, in reference to some of the new issues in the private sector agenda, such as the current global financial crisis, business competitiveness, poverty reduction through economic inclusion, and climate change.
Through the presentation of case studies and best practices from the Americas and the rest of the world, the conference will showcase CSR projects and their contribution to a more equitable development. The event will also explore the role of public-private partnerships.
The conference will be opened by Uruguayan President Tabaré Vázquez, IDB President Luis Alberto Moreno, and Bolívar Conti, president of DERES, at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 2.
President Moreno will also speak at the closing ceremony, along with the head of MIF, Julie T. Katzman, DERES’ president Conti, and a representative of the government elect of Uruguay.
The conference, which has been growing in attendance since it was launched in 2002, has been divided this year in plenary sessions, breakout sessions and institutional presentations. It will also provide a space for knowledge sharing, networking and matchmaking. It will feature presentations by experts in different fields, chief executive officers from multinational companies and foundations, top government officials, civil society leaders and representatives from multilateral organizations.
