Hope made of wood, plastic and tin

Temporary shelters provide relief and the basis for a permanent home

People given shelter at the army-run camp of Las Delicias gather in designated meeting areas while their children are kept busy at games and sports organized by relief workers from religious organizations. The tents, which were donated by Canada, are pitched in neat rows, and people who were neighbors in their hometowns are housed in adjoining tents. The camp also has bathrooms, designated areas for washing and cooking, and medical services provided by military doctors from Mexico and the Dominican Republic. Photo by Peter Bate—IDB.
