INTER-AMERICAN INITIATIVE ON SOCIAL CAPITAL, ETHICS AND DEVELOPMENT
International Seminar
“Social Capital, Ethics and Development: The New Challenges”
La Paz, Bolivia–November 25th & 26th, 2002
The Inter-American Initiative on Social Capital, Ethics and Development is pleased to announce the International Seminar, “Ethical Challenges of Development” to be held on the 25th and 26th of November, 2002 in La Paz, Bolivia. The Inter-American Development Bank and the Catholic University of Bolivia have organized this international seminar with support from the Norwegian Government, the Andean Development Corporation and beneath the auspices of several regional, local and national organizations.
Schools of economics and business administration throughout all of Latin America have been invited along with other representatives from influential social organizations such as businesses, governments and non-governmental organizations in order to discuss two topics imperative to the progress of the region: the ethical challenges faced by development and the promotion of social capital. The seminar is held in hopes of discovering ways to include these topics in the public debates that shape public policy as well as in the curricula of schools that shape economists, accountants, managers and other professionals.
Among the many topics that will be discussed at the International Seminar, “Ethical Challenges of Development,” the following are particularly vital:
I. Latin American Development: Trends and perspectives
II. Ethical Challenges of Development in Latin America Today
III. Ethics, the State, and Democracy
IV. Ethics and Business Administration
V. Teaching Ethics, Social Capital and Development: Dilemmas, Strategies and Experiences
