GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The objective of this technical cooperation is to
protect the archaeological sites and ecosystem of the
Serra da Capivara National Park. The project will
consist of three components: (a) conservation and
documentation of the archaeological sites; (b) basic
protection, infrastructure and maintenance works,
including construction of entrances into the Park,
rehabilitation and maintenance of parkways providing
access to prehistorical sites and observation points,
works to minimize erosion, and rehabilitation and/or
establishment of water reservoirs; and (c) support
actions, including strengthening of the executing
agency's management in business and marketing, educa-
tional training for the surrounding communities, and
promotion of artesan activities.
CONSULTANTS: Consultants specialized in restoration and identifica-
tion of causes of deterioration will be hired to help
carry out the first program component. One hydrolo-
gist and one engineer will be hired to supervise the
works to be carried out under the second program
component. A business management and marketing expert
will be hired to strengthen the executing agency's
management ability. Consultants specialized in elabo-
ration and publication of pedagogical material, teach-
er training, and artesan production will be hired for
the third program component.
GOODS AND EQUIPMENT: Construction equipment and materials for conservation,
computerized video technology for registration,
materials for drainage and water protection, vehicles,
and educational equipment and materials will be
purchased.
CIVIL WORKS: Limited conservation works, as well as construction
of eight park entrances, rehabilitation of parkways,
rehabilitation and establishment of water reservoirs,
and works to minimize erosion will be carried out.
