The IDB Cultural Center takes great pleasure in offering to the public the
exhibition, "Design in XXth Century Barcelona: From Gaudi to the Olympic
Games."
With this exhibition, the Inter-American Development Bank, through its Cultural
Center, pays special tribute to Spain, and particularly the city of Barcelona,
the site of the Thirty-Eighth Annual Meeting of the IDB's Board of Governors.
The city of Barcelona has always been a home for Spain's artistic vanguard.
Barcelona's artists and intellectuals have made a rich and lasting contribution
to the cultural life of Spain and Latin America.
Design in its various forms during the twentieth century is the theme of
this exhibition. Barcelonians have demonstrated remarkable originality in the
field of design. Their achievements represent an outstanding example of
transformation, creative renewal and progress within a universal context-without
sacrificing those traditions that continue to enrich the unique cultural
heritage of Spain.
The exhibition also coincides with the culmination of the first five years
of Cultural Center activities, which lends this celebration special significance.
