The
idiosyncrasy of the people of Louisiana--regardless of whether
they live in the city or in the bayou--bares a distinctive character
in addition to what can be perceived as the quintessential "American
way." This affirmation has been true for almost the first 400
years of its history, as a result of the syncretization of many
cultural influxes and the circumstances under which the region
has developed. The rich cultural blend of New Orleans is revealed
in its artistic and social expressions, such as theater, music,
visual arts, and even its peculiar Mardi Gras.
