Confronting Natural
Disasters in a
Changing Environment

Date: Friday, April 4, 2008
Time: 4:00 – 5:30 PM
Location: MBCC D-131
AGENDA

Seminar description

Mother Nature does not like to be taken for granted. The world has seen enough landslides, earthquakes and tsunamis to know that nature can react violently when she's ignored. Development experts know that it's important to take natural hazard risks into account during project planning. During this seminar, technical experts and policy makers will highlight the benefits of systematically managing the environmental risks through sustained and proactive integration and application of all components of disaster risk management (risk analysis, prevention and mitigation, financial protection and risk transfer, emergency preparedness and response and recovery), emphasizing pre-disaster prevention and mitigation. Participants will also review the lessons learned from field experiences, testimonies, and available indicators and data.
