Bridging the Infrastructure Gap: Challenges and Opportunities for Private Investment in Infrastructure

Date: Friday, 4 April, 2008
Time: 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Location: MBCC D-130
AGENDA

Seminar description

Poor infrastructure is limiting the competitiveness of Latin America and the Caribbean. Logistics costs throughout the region more than double the ones seen in other regions of the world. Latin America and the Caribbean spends less than 2% of its GDP a year on infrastructure, and it needs to increase that spending to at least 4% to 7% of GDP per year. The IDB is helping improve investments in high quality infrastructure, and it expects to approve around $12 billion in financing for key infrastructure projects for the region over the next five years. This seminar will examine successful hemispheric flagship infrastructure projects, such as the Panama Canal, and derive key lessons from their financing and their execution.
