The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) Coffee Network* was established to exchange information
on coffee projects and initiatives in Central America and Hispanola. The IDB’s efforts
to support the coffee sector accelerated in recently years after international
coffee prices plunged to historic lows,
damaging the economies of the region, and the livelihoods
of coffee producers and workers.
The IDB responded to the crisis by
working with the World Bank and the United States Agency for International
Development (USAID) to establish strategic lines of actions for the transition
of the sector. In April 2002, the three institutions produced a discussion
document and sponsored a regional workshop that brought together stakeholders
from the region, buyers, government agencies
and NGOs. Since then, the three institutions financed various projects that
are now being implemented.
This web provides information on
projects, documents,
workshops, and events sponsored by the IDB as well as links to other
organizations working in the coffee sector of Central America and Hispanola.
